Kudos to CS Professors Carla Gomes and Bart Selman, who have received a $7.5 million grant from the Multidisciplinary University Research Initiative (MURI) Program of the Department of Defense. The grant focuses on developing SARA, a scientific robot for materials discovery, integrating computational reasoning, optimization, and machine learning with quantum mechanics. Gomes and Selman will be working with Bruce Van Dover and Mike Thompson from materials science and engineering at Cornell, as well as with co-researchers at CalTech, University of Colorado, and Northwestern.
