CS Professor Carla Gomes was honored with a Research Excellence Award from the College of Engineering at Cornell University.
The annual awards were presented on December 9, 2019 in Willard Straight Hall as part of the Engineering Faculty Holiday Reception. Since 2015, the awards have recognized the importance of leadership in innovative research in the categories of assistant, associate, and full professors.
Gomes is Professor of Computer Science and the Director of the Institute for Computational Sustainability at Cornell University. Her research area is Artificial Intelligence with a focus on large-scale constraint-based reasoning, optimization, and machine learning. She has become a principal force in the establishment of the new field of Computational Sustainability.
